SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and The Lighthouse in Sunnyside is spreading the importance of the month with a 'Walk A Mile in Her Shoes' event on Sat., April 27.
The walk, which starts at 2690 E. Lincoln Ave. at 10 a.m., has participants walking a mile in heels down the path parallel to the Yakima Valley Highway.
Walkers are encouraged to wear heels but are not required to. Heels will be provided at the beginning of the walk for those who want them, including in men's sizes.
Shirts for the walk are also available for purchase.
The Sunnyside City Council also approved a proclamation to honor Sexual Assault Awareness Month for the month of April on Wed., April 10.
