TRI-CITIES, Wash-- Buying a Greyhound bus ticket is a common way runaway teenagers use to get out of town. One Tri-Cities woman caught up to her daughter in Boise on a Greyhound.
The mother couldn't believe her 17-year-old daughter was allowed to buy a Greyhound bus ticket that would take her to the other side of the country. The teen met a guy online who lives in Kansas, and decided to runaway to be with him. She made it as far as boise, idaho.
KNDU talked to a Greyhound spokesperson today that said teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 can purchase tickets and travel without an adult anywhere they want to go.
"Our ticket sales people are trained to look and see if someone does appear under the age of 15. Greyhound actually set that standard many years ago, the industry standard was 12 and greyhound set it at 15 and then the industry met up with our standard that we had set," said Abby Wambaugh, Greyhound Spokesperson.
Greyhound works with law enforcement to help runaways. Also they provide free tickets to runaways so they can get back home to their parents or guardians through the National Runaway Switchboard. All you have to do is call 1-800-RUNAWAY and they will help you get a Greyhound ticket home.
