KNDO/KNDU Tri-Cities, Yakima, WA | Man severs foot after being thrown from Sea-Doo

RATHDRUM, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Marine Deputies, the and medical personnel responded to the area of Twin Echo Road on Lower Twin Lakes regarding an injury boat collision involving a 19 foot Sea-Ray motorboat and a Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft Saturday afternoon.
Marine Deputies say 40-year-old Jon D. Carlson from Merced CA was operating his 17 foot Sea -Ray motor boat on Lower Twin Lakes. Carlson was plowing through the water in a northwesterly direction heading towards Upper Twin Lakes. There were seven people on board the Sea-Ray, four adults and three children.
48-year-old Brynne Malone, from Deer Park WA was operating a Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft and was approaching the Sea-Ray from the South, when he reportedly realized he was on a collision course. Malone took evasive action and turned hard to the left. This maneuver resulted in ejecting him off the Sea-Doo. Carlson, also took evasive action and turned sharply to his right. Due to the close proximity of the vessels and Malone being ejected from his Sea-Doo and into the water, he was struck by the propeller of the Sea-Ray. Malone sustained serious prop injuries to his left leg and his left foot was severed above the ankle. Smith was removed from the water by other boaters and taken to a nearby private dock. He was later transported to Kootenai Medical Center for treatment. Malone's foot was not recovered. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident. At this time, no charges have been filed.
