KNDO/KNDU Tri-Cities, Yakima, WA | 2 Billion more for Cash for Clunkers

PASCO,Wash.--Not even a week has gone by and the government program "Cash for Clunkers" has taken consumers for a ride.
Just four days ago the program went into effect to give consumers up to 4500 dollars to trade in their old cars and trucks for new fuel efficient vehicles. But the one billion dollars set out for the program evaporated quickly.
As a result of the overwhelming response from consumers, The House, scurried today to pass legislation for an additional two billion dollars to keep the program alive.
Dealerships all across the area are experiencing a huge spike in business.
"So far by noon today, between all the stores, we've had about sixty phone calls that have come in from the area asking about the clunkers program and if indeed it is going to be suspended," said Craig Cavanaug, General Sales Manager of McCurley Chevrolet in Pasco.
Many people are just now hearing about the program, but there is no time to wait.
"The reason that I came out today was because, as far as I know they're almost out of the funds for the program," said Martin Brown. " I came out to try to take advantage of it before it ends."
And it could very soon.
