Yakima Valley wineries sipped success during Labor Day Weekend

YAKIMA, Wash-- Labor Day Weekend is one of the busiest of the summer for area wineries. Economic concerns and rainy weather could've corked the festivities. But, the people at The Tasting Room in Yakima said business is up.

Customers came from Seattle, Walla Walla and the Tri Cities. The winery has the advantage of a unique location.

"People come, they have us as their first stop on the way over and their last stop on the way back cause we're so close to Seattle," said Paul Beveridge, winemaker, Wilridge Winery.

"Ya we're kind of the entry into wine country here in the valley," said Damon Lobato, manager, The Tasting Room.

They worked to make the weekend a full entertainment experience, showing a movie on Friday and offering tours of the vineyard and hike to nearby Cowiche Canyon.

But, The Tasting Room isn't the only winery sipping success. Wineries from Yakima to Prosser reported above average foot traffic for the holiday weekend.

The next big wine weekend will follow Thanksgiving.
