The amount of people who have toured the Hanford nuclear site has doubled in recent months
But after today the site wide public tours will end and the door that has greeted 5000 passengers over the summer will remain closed until next year.
Workers say more people are signing up for tours wanting to see the nation's newest historic landmark, the B-Reactor, but they also say there are still vast improvements that can be made to bring in more people from all over the country.
"I'm excited about all the plans we're going to be formulating over the winter so we can have even better tours next season," Hanford site historian Michele Gerber said.
Some of those plans include expanding the exhibits and including heating in the B-Reactor. Registration is expected to start in march.
