Okanogan County wildfire forces evacuations

OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash- Right now a wildfire is burning on Colville Tribal Land near the town of Nespelem in Okanogan County. Fire officials say so far the fire has burned over 1,600 acres and is nowhere near conatinment. 

We understand the Colville Tribal Convelecsent Center, other buildings, and homes are being evacuated due to the fire that started Wednesday afternoon about 3pm near Highway 155. 

At this hour no injuries are being reported.  The Deparment of Natural Resources has not been dispatched to help, right now the fire is being fought by all available reservation firefighter units.

Nespelem will start at 11am Thursday because of the fire, and there will be no preschool.
