SnoCo graffiti seen as ELF threat

Associated Press - September 26, 2009 12:45 AM ET

MALTBY, Wash. (AP) - Graffiti sprayed on a building in the south Snohomish County town of Maltby may be a threat from the Earth Liberation Front.

The Everett Herald reports sheriff's detectives and the FBI are investigating the message, which was signed ELF. It mentions MBA, or the Master Builders Association, which was the target of arson, and KRKO, an Everett radio station that had two towers knocked down.

The graffiti visible from Highway 522 includes the words, "If you continue to risk killing children, mother earth and her creations, all your holdings are targets."

A spokesman for the Master Builders Association, Mike Pattison, says it takes the message as a serious threat. KRKO owner Andy Skotdal declined to comment. He is replacing the toppled towers.

In an e-mail sent late Friday to The Associated Press, Tomas Peterson, described as a spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front Press Office, said he believes the graffiti to be "a strong warning directed specifically to the Skotdal family and the Master Builder's Association." Peterson adds that "if these entities continue to threaten the health and welfare of the planet, it is very likely we will see future actions by the ELF."
