FINLEY, Wash.--  A fire at Big Toe Auto Salvage in Finley rips through 40 cars in the junk yard.  Firefighters were called out at about 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.  When they arrived, multiple cars were on fire at the junk yard on Chemical Drive. 

Firefighters say this fire was difficult to fight because car fires can be dangerous.  Capt. Jeff Ripley, with Benton County Fire District #1, explains, "Car fires can have a lot of indirect dangers such as exploding shock absorbers and tires, different types of petroleum products, than can be more flammable than we're used to with a typical house fire."

The fire was so far into the junk yard that firefighters say it was hard to get close to the flames with their trucks and still be safe.  All the cars the burned were junk cars.

Firefighters are still trying to find a case.
