KENNEWICK, Wash-- A five month baby battling the swine flu has died.
The Benton Franklin Health District says the five month old had underlying health conditions but they say it does not make the loss of a child any easier.
This marks the first death of a baby by swine flu in the state of Washington, and is also the first swine flu-related death here locally.
In the last two months, roughly 40 have been hospitalized because of the virus here in Benton and Franklin counties.
The governor has already stepped forward and offered her condolences, saying her heart goes out to the family. She goes on to say this is a good reminder to continue taking pre-cautions; things like washing your hands and covering your cough.
As of right now, the vaccine is still going to health workers. It could be another month or so when you can expect a vaccine.
