A local 9-1-1 dispatcher is set to receive an award for playing a major role in saving a woman's life.
Esther Duncan says it's all just part of the job description, which is to do everything in your power to help the person on the other end of the phone.
That job description is what Esther focused on when she took a call this month from a man who was trying to save his wife's life. The caller says if she hadn't told him how to properly perform CPR that his wife would not be with us today.
Esther also says the training is what allowed her to stay calm and help the caller. Dispatchers go through extensive training. Initially they learn how to take calls and assist those in need, but overall it takes about a year for dispatchers to go through the entire training process..
Tomorrow Esther will get a medallion from the city of Richland to thank her for all of her good service.
