BASIN CITY, Wash--  It's being called the first of its kind in north Franklin County-- an affordable housing complex for seasonal workers. 

Just how cheap?  About eight bucks a night.  Ringold Farmworker Housing Project's designer and leader say the demand for safe, affordable housing is there; especially considering the county's seasonal workforce continues to grow.

They say the last thing they want is for any worker to feel they have to sleep in their car or camp out.  And we're also learning this is just the start, and we can expect to see similar projects in the near future.

"Franklin County's agricultural industry is huge and really there are thousands, and possibly tens of thousands of farm workers county wide," explains Marty Miller with the Office of Rural and Farm Worker Housing.  "So this is a good start, but still there's a long way to go."

Miller says the project could be ready within the year.  When it's complete, it'll be able to hold 96 workers.
