KENNEWICK, Wash-- You might say consumers at Craft Warehouse in Kennewick are 'bead'ing the economy, or the store is 'stringing' along month after month of positive sales.
Staff say sales have about doubled since the economic downturn. And a lot of that is because consumers are cutting back on sales. One option is hobby shops. It's a cheaper alternative for holiday shopping, and it's a good way to put your personal stamp on any gifts.
"People are going into crafts more than buying expensive gifts," says Mona Burbach with Craft Warehouse. "They're trying to make more personalized gifts, and be more economical."
"It definitely saves a lot of money and your family always welcomes homemade gifts rather than something you just bought and it makes it more personal," adds Krystal Moon, shopper. "And it's a lot of fun and gives me something to do."
Staff say with the holidays quickly approaching, they think that will mean big business.
