Richland, WA- Kadlec Regional Medical Center has begun hyperbaric oxygen therapy for people with hard-to-heal wounds.

Kathleen Dodson today underwent her 20th session in the hyperbaric chamber. Surrounded by 100-percent pressurized oxygen, Dodson watches television while the chamber improves her circulation and immune system, and helps her body develop collagen, the framework for healing. 

Dodson is being treated for wounds caused by diabetes. She says she became frustrated when other treatments didn't seem to heal the wounds.

“This is a good place to come. It's real hope filled--we can do something about this."

Hyperbaric therapy is also used to treat wounds related to prostate and other cancers. The chamber can also cure carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression illness, and even one form of blindness.
