EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A Marysville father has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison for the fatal shooting of his 6-year-old daughter.

Richard Peters was convicted last month of first-degree manslaughter in the Nov. 16, 2008, death of Stormy Peters. She was shot between the eyes in the family home. Prosecutors alleged that the 40-year-old man was drunk when he had Stormy get him a loaded gun from a bedroom nightstand. Peters says the .45-caliber Colt discharged accidentally.

Prosecutors argued that Peters intentionally aimed the handgun at his daughter.

Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Michael Downes sentenced Peters on Tuesday, saying the shooting was preventable. Defense lawyer Karen Halverson says Peters plans to appeal his conviction.
