OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Overnight low temperatures this week at Olympia dropped into the single digits.
Washington Fish and Wildlife biologists hope it really frosts those mudsnails in Capitol Lake.
State officials drew down the lake 2 feet Wednesday night in an attempt to freeze the New Zealand mudsnails that have invaded the lake.
The Olympian reports biologists are looking for any way to take out the tiny creatures that were discovered last month in the 260-acre lake.
The tiny snails - about an eighth of an inch long - reproduce rapidly and can crowd out other species that serve as food for fish.
The snails previously have been found in the lower Columbia River and on Washington's Long Beach Peninsula.
