WEST RICHLAND, Wash.-- It wasn't until after the West Richland city council meeting, in executive session, that mayor Donna Noski explained to her council why she needed Chief Erdman to go. Now she looks to replace him.
"We'll be searching for someone that has that good rapport with staff with the public and with the council," said Noski. "And recognizes the overall funding needs of the city as well as the department."
To the mayor, it's a desire for openness; something the mayor did not find in Erdman's department, "at the level I would like to see."
The mayor also had issue with the purchase of new police cars.
"You don't go out and purchase six new cop cars all in one shot with the kind of budgets we struggle with here," she said. "You do them in 2's or 3's and then you don't have them replaced in one fell swoop again."
Her decision is a dramatic one; one she stood by tonight and it's one her city says she can make alone.
