KENNEWICK, Wash.- Nearly a year later, the family of a Kennewick boy who drown in an irrigation pipe is suing the Kennewick Irrigation District.
Lawyers for Tayler Loch's family say the Kennewick Irrigation District didn't have any warning signs at the canal and should have posted those knowing kids often play in that area.
Loch was sliding through a culvert with friends in the Beer Falls area off Clearwater in Kennewick last October when his shoelace got caught and held him under the water and he drown.
Loch's family lawyer said Friday they're suing because KID was negligent by posting any warnings.
"It was an accident waiting to happen, it was something that could be prevented relatively easily and inexpensively, for example, putting a grate or some kind of cover at the entrance of the culvert or fencing it in," said Nathan Henry, the family's lawyer.
Court documents show the family is asking for an unspecified amount of financial damages stemming from funeral costs to the loss of their son.
Lawyers for KID didn't return calls for comment.
