A big story is the availability of a new taser for sale over the internet. The company selling it-- Taser International-- is targeting women by using feminine colors and messages like "What does Santa bring you when you've been good but the world is getting bad," and "Protect your family."
Kennewick officer Scott Child said Monday that owning a taser is not against the law. He said carrying one is legal in most states. But if a taser is used to threaten others, there are penalties.
Each taser is good for fifty uses. Taser International offers other versions of the taser, including one they market as The Perfect Shock.
Beverly Sapp was asked her opinion about tasers being put into the public's hands. She said, "There should be education involved with it. There should be classes, and they should have permits, kind of like gun control."
But Child said there are no regulations.
And people are buying the version for women at a rapid rate. 69 hundred of the tasers have been sold in the past three months. 59 hundred are on back order.
