RICHLAND, Wash.-- For nine years, Laura Firestone and Mother Nature have squared off.
As a United States Postal Service (USPS) Mail Carrier in Richland, Firestone says she's been hit hard by freezing temperatures and a frigid wind chill.
"It just blows right through you," says Firestone. You get chilled to the bone and of course, if you're not holding onto the mail, you have to hold onto it tighter so it's not going to blow away."
And on days like Wednesday, when hands turn pink and your breath is visible, it's wise, Firestone says, to create a clothing checklist.
"If you dress properly, have a hat and gloves, lots of layers," recommends Firestone. It makes a big difference then if you just come out here unprepared."
No matter what season..whether it be rain, sleet, snow or sun, Firestone is prepared to roll through anything.
"Before I went out on the street, I put on more layers," says Firestone. The long underwear and the socks and then the sweatshirt and scarf. Of course, your hat and gloves."
Delivering the mail and some free advice on a cold January, Wednesday afternoon.
