Oregon Windmill Farm Will be the Largest in the World

Posted: Updated:
MORROW COUNTY, Ore-- As the cost of energy continues to rise, developers in Morrow County Oregon will build the largest wind farm in the world. The farm will produce up to 909 megawatts.

The Oregon Energy Council just approved this massive wind mill farm called Shepherds Flat. It will be located in Morrow and Gilliam Counties.

The project will include 303 wind turbines and should be up and blowing by winter 2010. Energy created by the wind mills will be interconnected to Bonneville Power Administration.

The BPA currently has 14 interconnected wind energy projects in construction. A BPA spokesman is not sure if this wind farm will lower energy bills.

"It's important to remember wind is a very intermintant resource, it doesn't blow all the time, it doesn't necessarily blow when you need the most during high load hours," said Doug Johnson, BPA spokesman.

Lifeline Energy is the developer of the wind farm. Construction of this project could create 300 jobs.

Wind has a lot of benefits. It's a good clean renewable source of energy and it's all fueled by mother nature.

Currently the largest wind farm is Horse Hollow in Texas. It was developed by oil man T. Boone Pickens.
