SEATTLE, Wash. - Another great matchup of hydroplane racing pitted Dave Villwock, Steve David and Jeff Bernard head-to-head in Heat 3B at Seafair. Villwock made it look easy as he won Heat 3B.
"We've got a real race boat here this weekend," said Villwock on KIRO-TV. He came out of lane two for the win. "The inside guy was a little early and we made him pay."
Heat 3B
Steve David hit the line first, passing Jeff Bernard in lane one. The U-6, U-5 and U-1 all stayed tight going into the first turn, but Dave Villwock took the lead by the end of lap one. The U-1 team had a full two roostertail lead by the end of lap two.
Villwock had the U-1 flying around the course, clocking a 151mph competition lap.
Bernard was able to hang with Steve David and took over second place, but David grabbed it back to rack up 300 points towards the national championship. "We've got to keep the 5 behind us," said David. "I think Oberto's up to the challenge, but the Elam is the boat to beat."
The U-6 team changed out a prop before the heat. "It had a little bit less top end," said David.

David leads U-37 Jean Theoret and U-5 Jeff Bernard by more than a thousand points going into the final race of the 2008 ABRA Unlimited Hydroplane racing season.
Jean Theoret finished first, but was penalized for going too slowly in the pre-race jockeying for position. "I was going the same speed as everyone else," said Theoret on KIRO-TV. "Why am I getting penalized?" Dave Villwock in the U-1 Ellstrom Elam Plus presents Amos W. Hoss finished second, but was declared the winner.

After being penalized for being off-plane and having the Chevrolet Cup win taken away from Jean Theoret and Schumacher Racing, the team has filed a formal appeal. However, ABRA has certified Villwock as the official winner.

It was Becker's first-ever Unlimited Lights hydroplane victory in the Graham Trucking Cup at Seafair. "That was a great drive, that was fun," said Becker on KIRO-TV. "We had it down to the second and executed it (the start)."
Due to damage, a number of boats had to withdraw from the provisional. The U-7 FormulaBoats.com got in the water, but wouldn't fire up to make the start. That left Kip Brown all alone with a clear path to his first finals.
Jean Theoret in the U-37 Beacon Plumbing grabbed lane one and beat everyone into the first turn. Once he had the lead, nobody else in the heat had the boat speed necessary to run him down.
"ABRA rules are a bunch of bull-crap. They took another heat away from us. It sucks," said U-5 FormulaBoats.com's Jeff Bernard on KIRO-TV. "I ended up jumping the gun because I sped up, they told me to speed up."
"The old mean Dave's back out," said Villwock on KIRO-TV "We're gonna race hard every time and draw blood."
Defending Seafair champion Steve David and the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto / Miss Madison started the way he wanted with a Heat 1A victory. Also picking up 400 points were Dave Villwock in the U-1 Ellstrom present Amos W. Hoss and Jean Theoret in the U-37 Beacon Plumbing.
Five boats qualified at better than 150 mph. Dave Villwock in the U-1 Ellstrom Elam Plus presents Amos W. Hoss tops the field at 155.857 mph.
