KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Many drivers across the U.S. are paying higher gas prices, but so far, not in the Tri Cities, however we're still paying a lot more than the national average.
Energy Department leaders say prices are up 4-cents a gallon from a week ago after a midwest pipeline broke that moves a quarter of the oil imported from Canada to the U.S.
Enbridge, based in Houston, wouldn't say when the pipeline would be operating again.
At least one industry analyst said the jump in prices is "based mostly on perception" of an oil shortage.
The broken Enbridge Energy crude oil pipeline is in Romeoville, Illinois, about 30 miles from Chicago.
An estimated 6,100 barrels of crude oil were spilled last week after the pipeline broke.
The national average is $2.70 for a gallon of regular unleaded, but according to AAA, the average for the Tri Cities is $3.07, down nearly 4-cents from a week ago.
Yakima is averaging $3.08, three-oh-eight actually up 2-cents from a week ago.
