Emergency moratorium on medical marijuana in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash- An emergency moratorium on medical marijuana is in effect in Yakima. Tuesday the city council voted unanimously to ban medical marijuana dispensaries and related businesses for the next six months.
The move came in response to the new state marijuana law that goes into effect Friday. The city plans to take that time to decide how to handle any future dispensaries
"There has not been time for the city to consider and react with respect to zoning, with respect to licensing questions", says city attorney Jeff Cutter.
The council will hold a public hearing on the moratorium August 16th. They also voted to adopt a state regulation about the display of medical marijuana in public.
