PASCO, Wash.-- Charity baseball game collects 1,000 pounds of food. The game hosted by the Dust Devils and local police and firefighters brought in more than 1,000 of food and $300.00 in donation money.
The baseball game is an annual event focused to help groups like the Tri-City Food Bank, an organization desperate for donations.
John Neill with the Tri-City Food Bank says "there's not a lot of food drives going on during the summer time and or demand is higher than its ever been this summer."
Food banks in the area serve as many as 6,000 people per week. Neill says the economy is to blame for the increase of families including senior citizens needing food.
