Hiker dies on Longs Pass

Posted: Updated:

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash.-- David Brumer, 56, of Seattle, was hiking with three friends in the area of Longs Pass when he had a medical emergency and collapsed shortly after noon on Sunday.

Brumer's friends were medical professionals and provided immediate medical aid.  Despite their efforts, Brumer passed away at the scene.

The area is about 20 miles north of Cle Elum, and three miles in from the Esmeralda Basin Trail head. A seven person back country ground team from Kittitas County Search and Rescue hiked into the scene and remained with him over night. Because the area was so remote, plans are to pick up the victim via helicopter this morning.

The cause of death is still under investigation.
