Ryan Leaf will not be extradited to Texas for a probation revocation hearing. For now at least.
The Great Falls Tribune reported Wednesday that prosecutors in Texas decided to allow Leaf to go through his 15-month commitment in Montana. Nine months of that sentence will be spent in a lockdown drug treatment center. The remaining six months will be in a pre-release center.
The former Washington State and NFL quarterback admitted to breaking into a house in Montana back in April. He also admitted to illegally possessing prescription painkillers. He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and one count of criminal possession of a dangerous drug.
Breaking into the house in Montana and possessing drugs went against Leaf's probation stipulations in Texas. And Texas authorities had debated whether to take him back to possibly revoke his release.
Leaf's attorney told the Great Falls Tribune his client may still have to face a hearing in Texas eventually. But that hearing will not happen for at least the next 15 months.
