While he won't be one of the players on the podium, and he doesn't have a real chance of winning a medal, former Washington State star Klay Thompson is helping Team USA go for the gold in London.

Thompson, now a player for the Golden State Warriors, is one of 13 people chosen to serve on the practice squad that prepares the national team for the Olympics. The Warriors are featuring him on their website and giving fans a peak into what goes into preparing for the Olympics.

Though just a rookie, Thompson is definitely having an impact.

"I like Klay a lot, he's a fine young player," Kobe Bryant said during an interview posted on the Warriors website. "I hope he continues to work and continues to improve. He has a bright future."

Thompson said eventually he wants to win both an NBA championship AND a Olympic gold medal.

Team USA and the USA Select Team are practicing for the Olympics this week at UNLV in Las Vegas.
