Oregon unemployment rate flat at 8.5 percent

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Oregon employers created 1,700 new jobs in June, but the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 8.5 percent.

That's according to new figures released on Tuesday. The unemployment rate was 8.4 percent in May. Hiring was strong in the manufacturing sector as well as transportation and utilities, but those gains were partially offset by declines in government and service jobs.
