YAKIMA, Wash.-- Hundreds of kids around Yakima are taking advantage of the Free Summer Meals program this year.
Yakima School District, Food Services Program Manager, Cassie Davidson says they're seeing more kids use the program this year, than last.
At the start of summer break they fed about 1,300 kids per day. This month, they're still seeing about 900.
Davidson says the program has been a big success.
"There's a great need in this community for those kids, so we want to serve as many as we can during the summer months."
Davidson says participation in the program usually varies on how many kids are in summer school.
They'll serve at least 25,000 meals around Yakima this summer, all paid for by the USDA.
