KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Don Schumacher spent 33 years coaching high school basketball. Tuesday night, he got his well deserved induction into the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Schumacher spent 21 years as the head coach of the Kamiakin Braves (Schumacher coached twelve years in Alaska and Oregon as well). Schumacher retired two months ago after twelve year's as the school's athletic director. Over his entire coaching career, Schumacher compiled a 457-272 record. Schumacher says it is the relationships he built over his career that matter most.
"It is a great honor and I appreciate it, and I appreciate all the people that have done the legwork and want to thank obviously the Washington State Basketball Coaches Association. The relationships you have with your ballplayers and that whole makeup of their parents and such - those are things that you really relish and the practices and watching kids improve," Schumacher said.
