YAKIMA, Wash.-- The city of Yakima has finished repairs to a blocked irrigation canal.
Over a week ago the city shut down the line when they found something was preventing water flow. Crews eventually found a root ball was plugging it up. 700 homes were without irrigation water while the city fixed the line. It took them several days to find the problem area and over a week to fix it.
"We had no idea where the blockage was... And so it took several excavations to open up the pipe," says Yakima Irrigation Supervisor Avery Maxey.
The city is giving out a financial credit to people who were forced to use city water to irrigate. They say it will offset the increased cost between city and irrigation water.
