Big Crowd On Hand as Indians Blank Bears 7-0

Posted: Updated:

Spokane, WA - It didn't take long for the Spokane Indians to put yesterday's painful loss in the rear-view mirror. One night after going just 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position, Spokane delivered big hits in key spots on their way to a 7-0 drubbing of the Bears in front of 5,659 fans at Avista Stadium for Fireworks Night presented by The Spokesman-Review.

The Indians jumped on the board early and never looked back, scoring twice in the second inning on a two-out, two-run hit from shortstop Gabriel Roa. Spokane delivered another pair of runs in the sixth as the surging Smerling Lantigua tripled in a run off the Miller Paint sign in center field before scoring on a wild pitch. The team capped off their scoring with three more runs in the ninth inning courtesy of RBI hits from Saquan Johnson, Patrick Cantwell, and Roa.

Not to be outdone by their offensive counterparts, the Indians pitching staff was on point all night. Starter Jose Valdespina went four scoreless innings, Ryan Harvey (1-1) picked up the win with five strikeouts in three frames, and Alec Asher kept the Bears off the board in the eighth and ninth. The shutout was Spokane's third of the season.
