Fights break out during Umatilla County fair; closes early

Posted: Updated:

HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say the Umatilla County Fair was shut down half an hour early last weekend after gang-related fights broke out.

The fair's security director, Don Miller, says that authorities suspect a group came to the fair Saturday night with the intention of fighting.

He says the last time the fair closed early, five years ago, it was because of bad weather.  Closing time is usually midnight.

Undersheriff Terry Rowan says fights started in four areas, and two people were arrested.  One was accused of carrying concealed brass knuckles.
