YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's City Council received an update today on the Gang Free Initiative Program.
The consultant working on the project says they're currently negotiating with organizations around Yakima to provide certain services including intervention and a truancy center.
The city's plan is based off a US Department of Justice plan for dealing with gangs which is already used in places like Los Angeles.
"So, basically what we're doing is we're inviting everybody in to see how they do it... So we can say 'hey, you do a great job and you match OJJDP. We want you on board,'" says Yakima City Council member Dave Ettl.
The city hopes to have all their negotiations with outreach partners done by October first.
