UNION GAP, Wash.-- A car chase through Yakima and Union Gap this morning ended with the suspect's car in a ditch.
Police got a call about a man driving a stolen car at around eight this morning. Officers caught up with him near 16th Avenue and Chestnut. He sped off reaching speeds of over 50 miles an hour even through several school zones. Police called off the chase over safety concerns but found the car again thanks to a concerned driver.
"Very helpful in this case, we had a pretty good perimeter the... residential area here.. It's just somebody was able to follow them along and then get the attention of the Union Gap officer and point him to where the subject was," says Yakima Police Sergeant Shawn Boyle.
The suspect eventually lost control of his car and crashed into a ditch at 18th Street and Washington. He managed to get out and run but police caught him a short time later. He faces charges of eluding, possession of a stolen car and DUI.
