Air quality alert for Tri-Cities

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - You've probably noticed the haze hanging around the Tri-Cities. It's from wildfires burning all around us. In Wenatchee, down in Oregon and over in Idaho.

Benton Clean Air Agency issued an air quality alert today. Air quality in the Tri-Cities could reach unhealthy levels as a result of the wildfires. Executive Director Robin Priddy said it will likely get worse before it gets better.

"Forecasts through this weekend for what we call dispersion, which is when the air moves around and would move pollution up and out is not good," said Priddy. "So basically anything that gets in here, may stay here, which includes combustion products from vehicles and other kinds of exhaust."

You can check the air quality index daily and you should, according to Priddy. The elderly, young children and anyone with a lung illness could be affected by poor air quality. Benton Clean Air Agency has links on their web site www. bentoncleanair.org.
