Zillah, WASH.--The congratulations continue to pour in for a Zillah High School science teacher who just won the State's Teacher Of The Year Award.
There are nearly 60,000 teachers in the state and Jeff Charbonneau has been named this year's best.
He said it's been quite an honor, and he hopes this award brings national recognition to the high level of quality education happening in Central Washington.
Charbonneau graduated from Zillah High School in 1996. From there, he went on to study education at Central Washington University.
For the past 12-years, he's been teaching for the Zillah School District.
Charbonneau said, "As long as I can come in and make sure that my students are getting excited, that they're getting empowered and that they can start believing in themselves, then we can make a teaching paradise."
Charbonneau said he's not only a science teacher, but also the assistant drama director, the science club and yearbook advisor, and he enjoys taking his students on hikes and other recreational activities.
He's now in the running for receiving the National Teacher Of The Year Award.
As a candidate, he'll meet the next president of the United States sometime next May.
