Washington's backups got some much-needed and well-deserved playing time last week when the Huskies stomped Portland State 52-13.

The Huskies shut out the Vikings and put up 42 points in the first half, allowing for the second team to come up and do mop-up duties.

Even so, coach Steve Sarkisian said there is still room for his starters to improve.

"The ability to execute when not all of our starters are on the field, I think, is another something for a point of emphasis for us: as our backups are playing, their ability to go in and execute at a high level and do the things they need to do," said Sarkisian. "I thought we were spotty at best in the second half at doing that on both sides of the ball. So there are some things there to clean up."

The Huskies play Stanford Saturday at CenturyLink Field at 6 p.m. (PT) on ESPN.
