SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Whitworth Pirates are a perfect 4-0 on the season and will open the conference portion of their schedule this Saturday against Pacific.

The Bucs pulled out a 17-14 win over Chapman over the weekend. They credit their wins to working together as one unit – no matter who is on the field.

"We're thin right now but at the same time we have guys stepping up making plays, plenty of capably guys back there," said defensive back Paul Miller. "So, it's just a matter of them getting used to the speed and then just being comfortable making plays like they know how to."

"Especially with losing some players and other kids having to step up – we have two guys out here who really haven't had any playing time at all," said coach John Tully.

Saturday's conference-opener against Pacific will be in Forest Grove, Ore. at 1 p.m.
