SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Officers were dispatched to the Rite Aide Store at 2010 Yakima Valley
Hwy, The Mid Valley Mall, for a theft in progress tonight.
Store security was attempting to stop a male, later identified as Jose A. Silva
and a female, later identified as Helen Guerrero-Garcia shoplifting suspects.
The suspects refused to stop and fled the store, getting into a waiting vehicle,
a 2002 Chrysler Sebring, with two other passengers, identified as Enrique Silva
(brother) and Katie Bell. Store security went out to the parking lot in order
to obtain the license plate number to the vehicle. Jose Silva got into the
drivers seat and attempted to run over the store security officer as he was
leaving the parking lot.
Officers were already responding to
the location and attempted to stop Jose Silva in the parking lot of the Mall.
Silva refused to stop and went in behind the Mall, to Edison Ave and then
left heading east on Edison. A pursuit was
started and Silva continued to SR 241 northbound to Van Belle Rd, where
he turned westbound on Van Belle
Rd. Silva continued westbound until the intersection
of Price
Rd where a victim vehicle was struck with minor
damage. There were no injuries in this accident.
During the pursuit Jose Silva
reached speeds of 120 MPH. Total distance of the pursuit is 13
miles.
Jose Silva continued westbound on
Van Belle
Rd and entered the Granger city limits, continued
through Granger city, and onto SR 223. Van Belle turns into SR 223 at Granger.
Jose Silva continued until the intersection of Indian Church Rd, where Jose
Silva attempted to turn south on Indian Church Rd, lost control and left the
roadway, crashing into the guard rail. Jose Silva ran from the vehicle.
Officers ran after Jose Silva and tased Silva, taking him into
custody.
One of the female passengers,
Guerrero-Garcia was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital by ambulance, treated and later
released. All others were treated at the scene and released.
Sunnyside Police Department was
assisted by officers from Granger PD, Zillah PD, YSO Deputies, and WSP
Troopers.
WSP is assisting in the
investigation in the accident at SR 223 and Indian Church Rd.
Jose Silva had multiple warrants
for his arrest and is currently listed in Crime
Stoppers.
Jose Silva and Enrique Silva are
documented Sureno Gang members.
All are currently being held for
investigation at the time of this release. Updated information will be released
tomorrow afternoon.
