KENNEWICK, Wash. - Fees having to do with licensing are going up. The one that will likely affect most people is the driver's license fee. That's going from $25 to $45. The last time that fee went up in price was back in the year 2000.
Several of the fees related to driver licensing are going up and a few of them having to do with vehicle licensing will go up, as well. But officials with the Department of Licensing said these fee increases are for the benefit of everyone in the state.
"They were looking at the money it was going to take to continue to operate and maintain the transportation system we have and they needed to look for sources of additional revenue to get that work done," said DOL spokesperson Brad Benfield.
By next summer, the DOL expects these fee increases will garner an additional $60 million for Washington's transportation system.
