RICHLAND, Wash.-- The 2012 KNDU Coats for Kids Drive begins October 1st, but Saturday kicked-off the distribution of coats at an event in Richland.
About four hundred twenty five coats were given away Saturday morning at the Salvation Army Richland Community Center .
Every year the Salvation Army distributes over two thousand coats.
But this year, they expect to nearly double that and give out over four thousand of them.
"We're seeing more working families coming to us. And that has increased the need that is out there and we need the help from community," says Major Julio Vasquez, Salvation Army.
Starting next week, people can get coats every Tuesday and Thursday at the Salvation Army Pasco office through the end of January.
