SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-- A big jump in kindergarten enrollment for the Sunnyside School District.
Principal Janie Hernandez with Sun Valley Elementary School says right now there are 611 kids enrolled in kindergarten, that's up more than 220 from last year. a huge increase.
The district anticipates a small growth every year, but this year, it's way over what they thought it would come in at.
"We're just really excited and teachers are excited and that's lots of work to be done, but you know, it's exciting, I think it's exciting to see what the number is," said Hernandez.
Because of the sudden increase, Sun Valley had to add three classes to their school, hiring on three more teachers.
Hernandez says it's nice to see the increase, but they're not really sure why the sudden push.
