College basketball fans might find this interesting. The nation's top high school prospect may be coming to a program in the West Coast Conference.
Jabari Parker, from Chicago, narrowed his list to five schools on Friday: Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Stanford and BYU. Cut off his list – which was a list of 10 – were DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Parker will now set up official visits to his top five. He visits Duke on Oct. 27, and Florida on Nov. 2.
BYU is on Parker's list because he is, after all, a Mormon. But that isn't to throw his religion a bone, said his coach. Said coach Robert Smith to ESPN:
"All five schools are schools he's really interested in and really thinking about attending," Smith said. "He's really thinking about BYU. I know his faith has a lot to do with it. The coaching staff has been great with him. They've been a winning program. That's one of his choices."
Just imagine if he chose BYU. I wonder what he would do against Gonzaga in Spokane.
