Yakima, WASH.--Hundreds of volunteers were out in Central Washington Saturday collecting non-perishable food items for local food banks.
The food will be donated to eight food banks in the area.
Volunteers said the need is great this year since a lot of people are out of jobs and dependent on the donated resources.
Drivers went around and collected food that people left on their doorsteps.
Volunteers are hoping to get 130,000 pounds of food donated this year.
"There are a lot of people whose families don't have food so we're hoping to fill those food banks so that they can go there and get food for their families," said volunteer Patty Dion.
This is the Yakima Rotary Club's 30th annual Operation Harvest.
The Rotary Club is also striving to raise $30,000 in monetary donations.
