SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Gonzaga women's basketball team is laying the groundwork for the 2012-13 season – a season which is closer than you may think.

The Zags have their regular season opener next month – November 9 against UC Riverside. That means they have just a few weeks to build a cohesive team for the upcoming season.

The consensus is each player is happy to get back to basketball.

"It feels great!" said point guard Taelor Karr. "It feels like it's been a long time since the end of last season. We got a lot of new kids and we're all excited – very young, so we've had a lot of energy in practice so far. We're ready for games to start."

"I'm so excited for practice," said now-veteran Jazmine Redmon. "I mean, we've been waiting all summer just to hit the gym floor and start practicing."

"It's awesome, it's nice to be back, I can't wait to finally be back in front of all of our fans and just get back up on the horse."

Speaking of fans…. Fans can see the Zags – both the men and the women – for the first time this Saturday at Fan Fest. The event at McCarthey Athletic Center is free and open to the public. Doors open at 1 p.m., with the action starting at 2 p.m.
