Yakima City Council to decide on closing a block of 4th Street

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's City Council will decide tomorrow on whether to start permanently closing a block of 4th Street in downtown Yakima.

The closed off would be located right behind the Capitol Theatre.

The spot would be used as a public gathering area for large events like concerts as well as weekly events, like the farmers market.

We spoke with City Councilmember Sara Bristol who says the measure has strong support from the council.

"I have not seen any resistance to that idea. I think there are not many businesses on that block," says Councilmember Sara Bristol

If the city council approves the idea, it'll take several months for the city to actually close the road.

The area would likely be ready for events by next spring.

If you'd like to share your opinion on the plan, tomorrow night's city council starts at six o'clock at city hall.
