Increased postage on Franklin County ballots

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - The price to send in a ballot in Franklin County has gone up by 20 cents.

Franklin county is one of four counties in the state that are required by federal law to have a bilingual ballot.

While Hispanics and Latinos make up almost 12 percent of Washington's population, they make up more than 50 percent of Franklin County's.

"Especially in the presidential year and even in the primary we had a lot of candidates. What really drives it is the size of the ballot and the weight of it,' said Matt Beaton, Franklin County Auditor.

Yakima County is also required to provide voters with a bilingual ballot.

Beaton said each election is going to be priced independently depending on how much the ballot weighs.
