Drop, cover and hold for Great ShakeOut drill

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Organizers say more than a half-million people will "drop, cover and hold" for about a minute Thursday morning for the 10-18 Great ShakeOut earthquake drill.

Emergency workers say 680,000 people have registered online to take part, either individually or through organizations such as school districts and government agencies.

The drill starts at 10:18 a.m.

Organizers say climbing under a desk and holding on is good practice for a quake and also an opportunity to learn about earthquake dangers and available resources.
